One of the smallest museums you’re likely to come across, the Galway Fisheries Watchtower museum is dedicated to Galway’s rich history of river fishing throughout the years. Located at one end of Wolf-Tone bridge the museum is easily located and well worth the stop.
While undoubtedly one of the most recognisable building in Galway City, Lynches castle is also easily missed by any visitors. It currently houses an AIB bank but the gothic style facade, dating from the 16th century, is well preserved, with information panels located inside the ground floor doors. Lynch’s castle is well worth a stop for those with an architectural soft spot.
The Kenny Gallery has transformed over a number of decades. Starting as a simple bookshop in the 1940s it is today the largest commercial gallery in Ireland. Today the Kenny Gallery specialises in Contemporary Irish Art, exhibits the work of 19th and 20th century artists, and frequently hosts exhibitions by visiting artists from Europe and the United States
Galway Arts Centre is one of the counties leading art institutions. It boasts local, national and international artistic works, exhibitions, all in addition to writing, photography, and workshops in drama, music and voice.
